Hi, I’m Alexandra Goolsby

I’m an instructional designer and manager of course development currently located in Tuscaloosa, AL, with a background in academic librarianship. I’m passionate about creating engaging, accessible online learning experiences for users of all ages and skill levels. Reading, traveling, and film/television are my favorite ways of exploring our world and experiencing new and exciting stories!

Manager, Course Development (Oct 2021 – Present)
The University of Alabama, Teaching Innovation and Digital Education (formerly the College of Continuing Studies)

  • Manages 4 Instructional Technology Assistants who support the course development team at ACCESS Virtual Learning (http://accessdl.state.al.us/)
  • Recruits and leads 60+ external teachers through a peer review process annually
  • Engages in all instructional design responsibilities (see details in previous position below)
  • Currently:
    • Leading the development of 5 Advanced Placement (AP) courses during the 2022-23 dev cycle
    • Revising all team documentation to align with new practices and procedures and creating a team knowledge base in Confluence

  • Developed, designed, built, and maintained virtual, asynchronous secondary education courses for the Alabama State Department of Education’s ACCESS Virtual Learning program (http://accessdl.state.al.us/), which enrolls over 28,000 students annually
  • Oversaw concurrent, year-long projects that involve numerous internal team members, subject matter experts (SMEs), and other external groups, using project management tools like Trello
  • Trained SMEs on backward design and online learning principles
  • Evaluated and revised lesson objectives and course content to align with Alabama Courses of Study, QM Rubric course quality and internal style guidelines, WCAG web accessibility standards, technical and usability requirements, and copyright compliance policies
  • Designed and built accessible, engaging web pages and interactive multimedia assets using Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver), Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia
  • Analyzed course completion data in Microsoft Power BI and user feedback surveys to improve content quality and effectiveness
  • Led the design and development of interactive templates and trains team members on their use
  • Mentored and trained newer members of the course development team

As a Librarian…

Reference and Instruction Librarian (Aug 2014 – Dec 2015)
Mississippi College, Leland Speed Library

  • Developed and led assessment-based library instruction sessions as part of MC’s information literacy initiative, U Research, and taught students research strategies, including how to use library catalog and databases
  • Provided in-person, telephone, and email reference and research assistance to on-campus and distance students, faculty, and community members on a rotating basis, including nights and weekends
  • Created online and print instructional guides that support the research efforts of students and faculty
  • Served as a collection development and outreach liaison to faculty and staff in the English, History, Political Science, and Administration of Justice department sand managed four collection development budgets for those departments
  • Scripted and produced 20 library-specific tutorial videos using Camtasia
